Guiding Principles

*** R Family Dojo***

Karate is self-defense.  Everyone needs to gain skills and confidence to defend themselves, should they need to.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

1. This dojo is family.
Thus the name "R Family Dojo".  We work together.  We cheer for each other.  We lift each other up.  We help each other.  We teach each other.

2. Each student is cared for.
I give hugs, high fives, and thumbs up.  I try to give specific positive feedback or encouragement at least 1-2 times to each individual throughout a class. (I definitely do discipline too. This is sometimes in a strict karate dojo type of way and sometimes it is in a parental way.)

3. Everyone is different with different strengths.
We talk about this all the time.  Expectations also have to be slightly adjusted depending on student needs.

4. Karate is fun, but it has to be hard in order to learn and grow.
I try to instill the inner desire to be your best and push yourself farther each class.

5. We must teach others to teach.
A good leader teaches others to lead. I allow any student with a little bit of rank to lead warm ups. I allow any student in my big kid class to help with my little kid class. I allow higher ranks in any class to sometimes specifically work with lower ranks.
